OVERVIEW

Iwanai Shrine is said to have been established in 1789 (Kansei 1) to express gratitude for the safety of the fishermen and the blessings of the sea. During the prayer service, the Shinto priest prays for the safety of your journey and calm weather, and visitors hold a branch called a “tamagushi,” offering their hearts to connect with the gods. At the annual festival, which has continued for over 100 years, local residents gather, and you can feel the vibrant spirit of a town that lives in harmony with the sea. Here, you can experience the simple faith of Japan and the warm traditions rooted in the community.
